Boating for Recreation and Fishing on Two Mountain Lakes

In Swain County, two beautiful mountain lakes — the 26-mile-long Fontana and the smaller Cheoah — provide exceptional opportunities for boating, recreation, and fishing.

## Fontana Lake

Fontana Lake is a popular destination for boating enthusiasts due to its expansive 26-mile length and the array of facilities available.

– **Full-Service Marinas**: Fontana Lake boasts several full-service marinas that offer a variety of amenities, including boat rentals, fuel stations, and convenience stores. This makes it an ideal location for both day trips and longer boating excursions

– **Public Access Ramps**: For those who own private boats, Fontana Lake provides multiple public access ramps. These ramps facilitate easy entry onto the lake, allowing boaters to enjoy a seamless experience.

– **Fishing Opportunities**: Anglers will find Fontana Lake teeming with fish. It is known for its diverse fish population, including bass, walleye, and trout, making it a prime spot for both novice and experienced fishermen.

## Cheoah Lake

Cheoah Lake, though smaller than Fontana, offers a more intimate setting for boating and fishing.

– **Public Access for Private Boats**: Unlike Fontana, Cheoah provides a more straightforward approach to boating with public access specifically designed for private boat owners. This lake is less crowded, offering a peaceful environment for those seeking solitude on the water.

– **Scenic Beauty**: The lake is surrounded by picturesque mountain scenery, enhancing the overall boating experience. It’s an excellent location for those who enjoy leisurely boating combined with nature watching.

– **Fishing Spots**: Cheoah Lake is known for its excellent fishing spots. The lake is home to various fish species, including bass and trout, providing an exciting challenge for fishing enthusiasts.

Whether you’re an avid boater, a fishing aficionado, or simply seeking a serene escape, Fontana and Cheoah lakes offer diverse experiences to cater to all outdoor enthusiasts.
